Ethereum Mainnet
Ethereum Mainnet is the largest Ethereum Virtual Machine network to date. The Proof-of-Work network was established in July 2015. Ethereum Mainnet is an open source, blockchain-based distributed computing platform and operating system featuring smart contract functionality.

Ropsten
Ropsten is an Ethereum test network that allows for blockchain development testing before deployment on Mainnet, the main Ethereum network. Ropsten is the successor of Morden, the first Ethereum Testnet. It is live since November 2016, and is supported by Geth, Parity, Nethermind and Hyperledger Besu.

Kovan
Kovan is an Ethereum test network that allows for blockchain development testing before deployment on Mainnet, the main Ethereum network. The Proof-of-Authority test network was established in March 2017. It uses the AuRa (authority round) consensus mechanism, and is supported by Parity.

Goerli
Goerli is an Ethereum test network that allows for blockchain development testing before deployment on Mainnet, the main Ethereum network. The Proof-of-Authority test network was established in March 2019. It uses the Clique consensus mechanism, and was originally proposed by Chainsafe and Afri Schoedon.
